Last week, Human Rights Commission Zambia (HRC-Z) interacted with residents of Chilanga, Chirundu, and Kafue as it was conducting community engagement and human rights sensitisation meetings in the districts.
During the outreach activities conducted form 29th September to 3rd October, 2025, HRC-Z visited Twatasha Market and Waleleka Primary School in Chilanga District; Giant of Knowledge Cooperative and Chirundu Secondary School in Chirundu District; and Chandwe village and Chikupi Primary School in Kafue District.
The communities were sensitised on their rights and enhanced mandate of the Commission and had their concerns relating to human rights promotion and protection addressed.
Some of the human rights concerns addressed were related to child abuse, youth delinquency, and the violation of human rights by law enforcement officers.
The Commission stressed the need to prioritise parental responsibility in the raising of children, as well as promotion and protection of children’s rights.
The communities were also encouraged to report abuses and violations of human rights to the Commission through its toll-free line 8181 for prompt action.
HRC-Z also paid courtesy calls on Ms. Maureen Chilende, District Commissioner for Chilanga District; Mr. Morris Hikapulwe, District Commissioner for Kafue District; and Mr. Patrick Kasambila, District Commissioner for Chirundu District.
The District Commissioners called for continued human rights sensitisation and community engagement meetings in order to empower citizens with more knowledge about human rights and how they can claim them.
