HRC-Z meets key Stakeholders in Mumbwa ahead of Public Hearing on Child Marriages

The Human Rights Commission of Zambia (HRC-Z) is engaging various stakeholders in Mumbwa as it prepares to hold a public hearing from 18th to 19th November 2025, to inquire into the increasing cases of child marriages being reported in the district.

HRC-Z paid courtesy calls on civic leaders, including Mumbwa District Commissioner Ms. Namukulo Munalula Hayumba; Town Council Secretary Mr. John Machai; His Royal Highness Chief Mumba; United Church of Zambia Reverend Kawanje Tembo; Mumbwa Central Adventist Church Administration Elder Joshua Simusa; Christ The King Parish Mumbwa Catholic Church Secretary Margret Lungowe; Nangoma Constituency Office Professional Assistant Mr. Rodgers Mwiya; and Kasalu Primary School Headteacher Mr. Bitwell Choma.

HRC-Z is also sensitising Mumbwa residents on the public hearing through radio and community public announcements.

The Chairperson, Dr. Pamela Towela Sambo, will lead the Vice Chairperson, Dr. Felicity Kayumba Kalunga, Commissioner Laura Mary Miti and Commissioner Panic Mukamambo Malawo Chilufya, in receiving submissions from Mumbwa residents during sittings which will be held at Mumbwa Council Chamber on Tuesday 18th November 2025 and Kasalu Primary School in Nangoma on Wednesday 19th November 2025.
