The Human Rights Commission-Zambia (HRC-Z) today held discussions with the Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Zambia, His Excellency Mr. Tewfik Mahi, on strengthening dialogue and cooperation in the promotion and protection of human rights.
The discussions, attended by HRC-Z Chairperson Dr. Pamela Towela Sambo and Acting Director General Mr. Foster Hamuyube, provided an opportunity for both institutions to exchange experiences on the role of National Human Rights Institutions in advancing human dignity, equality and fundamental freedoms.
The discussions highlighted the importance of cooperation among African human rights institutions, sharing of good practices and strengthening institutional mechanisms for effective human rights protection. The engagement also underscored the importance of international and regional human rights cooperation, as well as advancing economic, social and cultural rights that contribute towards human dignity and well-being.
The Commission welcomed the discussions and expressed readiness to explore areas of mutual interest that contribute towards strengthening human rights protection in Zambia, Algeria and across Africa.
