HRC-Z Engages Mining Communities in Lufwanyama, Mufumbwe and Kalumbila

The Human Rights Commission-Zambia (HRC-Z), in collaboration with Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR), is conducting community engagements in Lufwanyama District in Copperbelt Province, Kikonge in Mufumbwe District and Kalumbila District in North-Western Province to raise awareness of business and human rights.

The engagements aim to promote understanding of human rights obligations and responsibilities in business operations, particularly in the mining sector, while giving communities an opportunity to raise concerns about the impact of mining and related activities on their rights.

Key issues under discussion include land acquisition and compensation, environmental degradation, water pollution, dust emissions, occupational health and safety, labour rights, local employment opportunities, community development, and access to information and complaint-handling mechanisms.
