The Human Rights Commission of Zambia (HRC-Z), in collaboration with the Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD) and the Department of Social Welfare (DSW) engaged 41 persons with disabilities in Chikankata District, during a human rights capacity building workshop held on 11th November 2025 at Chikankata Mission Hospital.
The persons with disabilities were sensitised on the mandate of HRC-Z, the available reporting mechanisms when their rights are violated or abused, and were encouraged to be human rights champions in their communities.
They were also made aware of various government empowerment programmes aimed at addressing the challenges faced by persons with disabilities and promoting their inclusion and well-being.
HRC-Z Director Education, Training and Advocacy, Mr. Mweelwa Muleya, stressed the need to empower persons with disabilities with human rights knowledge to ensure they fully and effectively participate in society.
