Following the lapse of the progressive compliance period under the Access to Information (ATI) Act No. 24 of 2023 on 25th June 2026, the Human Rights Commission – Zambia (HRC-Z) has continued to sensitise information holders to ensure full compliance with the Act.
With support from the European Union through GIZ, HRC-Z held a meeting on 20th July 2026 in Chinsali and engaged 45 information holders and requesters from the public sector, private sector, civil society, the media and local communities.
At another meeting held in Kabwe on 22nd July 2026, 40 information holders and information requesters were engaged.
The information holders and requesters were sensitised on the mandate of the Commission relating to ATI, obligations of information holders, the procedures for making requests and processing requests for information and appeals against decisions of information holders, among other issues.
The Commission is confident that accessing information using the ATI Act should be be easily done as efforts are being made to address the challenges that may be encountered by information holders and requesters.
