Human Rights Commission-Zambia (HRC-Z) has urged information holders to understand and uphold their obligations under the Access to Information Act No. 24 of 2023.

Speaking during a stakeholder engagement meeting in Mongu, Western Province, on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, which brought together 32 information holders, HRC-Z Manager for Research and Planning, Mr. Lisbon Chaamwe, urged information holders to familiarise themselves with the Act and follow the prescribed procedures when handling applications for information.

Mr Chaamwe outlined the provisions of the Act relating to information holders’ obligations, including how to deal with requests for information and the circumstances under which information may be accessed or withheld.

He also emphasised the responsibility of information holders in relation to the disclosure of information and urged them to ensure that decisions concerning access to information are guided by the law.

On the same day, HRC-Z also featured on a radio programme broadcast by Oblate Liseli Radio, where the team discussed Access to Information and raised awareness on the right to access information and the provisions of the Act.

The stakeholder engagement and radio programme formed part of HRC-Z’s efforts to promote awareness and understanding of the Access to Information Act among information holders and the wider public.
