The RightsCon delegation was made up of Director Ms. Nikki Gladstone; African Policy Manager Ms. Naro Omo Osagie; Risk and Operations Lead Mr. Ben Whelan; and Communications Lead Mr. Igor Campos.
The meeting, held at the Commission’s Head Office in Lusaka, provided an opportunity for HRC-Z and RightsCon to share insights on the promotion and protection of human rights in the digital era.
Welcoming the RightsCon delegation, HRC-Z Director of Education, Training and Advocacy, Mr. Mweelwa Muleya, briefed the delegation about the Commission’s mandate and its experiences in promoting and protecting human rights in Zambia.
Mr. Mweelwa highlighted the Commission’s growing engagement on issues relating to the promotion of digital rights and technologies and access to information, noting that these areas were becoming increasingly important in the protection of human rights in the country.
Ms. Gladstone expressed gratitude for the warm welcome extended by the Commission and the people of Zambia, describing the engagement as a valuable opportunity to understand Zambia’s human rights landscape ahead of the 14th Edition of the World’s Leading Summit on Human Rights in the Digital Age.
The Summit, set to take place in Lusaka from 5th to 8th May 2026, will be held for the first time in the South-Central African region and is expected to bring together 3,000 human rights defenders, policymakers, technology experts, and civil society leaders from 150 countries to explore solutions to the most pressing challenges at the intersection of technology and human rights.
