The Human Rights Commission wishes all the men and women in the Zambia Police Service a happy police day.

As the Zambia Police Service celebrates the 2026 Police Open Day today, the Commission would like to affirm its continued partnership with the Police in the promotion and protection of human rights.

The Commission regards the Police as a protector of human rights and recognises its critical role in the maintenance and enforcement of law and order, which is a necessary ingredient to creating and sustaining an environment for the respect of human rights.

The theme of this year’s celebrations, “Peaceful Elections, Our Shared Responsibility,” underscores this important role of the Police during the elections. Indeed, ensuring peaceful elections is a collective responsibility that cannot be fulfilled without ensuring utmost respect for human rights.

The Commission will continue working closely with the Police in the protection of citizen’s rights whilst ensuring there is compliance with international human rights standards in all law enforcement actions.
