Copperbelt Police Officers Trained on Human Rights and Election Security Management

The Human Rights Commission (HRC) is collaborating with the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF), Zambia Police Service and the Electoral Commission of Zambia in conducting a two-week training programme for police officers under the Copperbelt Division on election security management.

The training programme commenced on 15th June 2026 and is being held at Protea Hotels in Ndola. It targets key officers responsible for providing election security, ranging from the rank of Constable to Chief Inspector.

The programme aims to equip participating officers with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage election security operations while upholding the principles of democratic policing, professionalism, and respect for human rights.

The training is expected to strengthen the capacity of officers to prevent and respond to election-related challenges in a manner that promotes peace, public confidence, and the protection of fundamental rights. It will also enhance their ability to effectively manage security before, during, and after the 13th August 2026 General Elections, in accordance with national laws and international human rights standards.

Through this initiative, the Human Rights Commission and its partners seek to contribute to a peaceful, secure, and credible electoral process by ensuring that law enforcement officers are well-prepared to carry out their duties professionally and impartially.
