Human Rights Commission  (HRC) Director General Ms. Mbololwa Wamunyima has called for continued collaboration between the HRC and the Zambia Police Service to prevent electoral violence and safeguard human rights in the forthcoming General Elections.

Ms. Wamunyima remarks during a familiarisation visit to Western Province on 10th July, 2026 where she paid courtesy calls on the Zambia Police Service Outgoing Deputy Commissioner for Western Province, Ms. Elizabeth Mutale, Western Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Mr. Richard Simfukwe Mulwanda, and Zambia Correctional Service Deputy Regional Commanding Officer for the Western Region, Ms. Carren Nachalwe.

The courtesy calls were aimed at strengthening the Commission’s engagement with key stakeholders and gaining a better understanding of the province’s human rights landscape.

Speaking during a meeting with the Zambia Police Service Outgoing Deputy Commissioner for Western Province, Ms. Elizabeth Mutale, HRC Director General said that the Commission recognises that effective policing and the protection of human rights are mutually reinforcing.

She added that where human rights concerns arise, the Commission believes that continued dialogue, mutual respect and institutional cooperation remain the most effective means of addressing them.

Through these engagements, HRC reaffirms its commitment to continued collaboration with stakeholders in promoting and protecting the rights and freedoms of every person in Zambia.
