HRC-Z engages Livingstone-based institutions of learning on human rights

The Human Rights Commission of Zambia (HRC-Z) conducted human rights sensitisation engagements from 9th to 11th June 2026, targeting educators, students and learners in Livingstone.

At Hillcrest Technical Secondary School, the Commission engaged 298 Grade 11 learners on their rights, as well as HRC-Z’s mandate. The sensitisation session ignited the learners’ passion in human rights and led to the decision to have a human rights club re-established at the school to enable the learners champion human rights with HRC-Z’s support.

HRC-Z also engaged 320 students at David Livingstone College of Education, where it explored the opportunities for collaboration with the institution in the promotion of human rights.

With financial support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), co-funded by the European Union under the Enabling Access to Justice, Civil Society Participation and Transparency (EnACT) Programme, HRC-Z also featured on a one-hour live discussion on Zambezi FM Radio, raising awareness on Access to Information (ATI) Act No. 24 of 2023, which provides for the procedure for citizens and residence permit holders to access information held by public authorities.

The radio discussion on Access to Information further provided listeners with an understanding of the obligations of information holders under the Act in affording requesters access to the information in their possession.
