Human Rights Commission staff undergo capacity building on access to information

Staff at the Human Rights Commission of Zambia (HRC-Z) participated in a two-day capacity-building workshop on access to information held at Sandy’s Creation in Chilanga District from 15th to 16th June 2026.

With support from the European Union and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development through the GIZ Enabling Access to Justice, Civil Society Participation and Transparency Programme, HRC-Z organised the training to enhance its staff’s understanding of the Access to Information Act (ATI) and the performance of its oversight function.

HRC-Z Director General Ms. Mbololwa Wamunyima underscored the Commission’s oversight role under the Act, adding that the Commission had taken adequate measures to prepare itself to execute its ATI mandate by strengthening the operational structure, processes, and staffing levels.

Ms. Wamunyima stressed that, to deliver on its ATI mandate, HRC-Z needed staff who were knowledgeable, skilled, and confident in both the letter and spirit of the law.

“The success of the Access to Information regime in Zambia will depend significantly on the strength and effectiveness of the institutions responsible for its implementation,” she said.
